Out
of the cave
Man
never finishes leaving the cave. The
cave of the Platonic myth symbolizes with much relevance our mental
universe, i.e. our culture captive of its 'impassable horizon'
according to the expression of Sartre, the great specialist in our
modern enclosures. With a terrible suspicion. Is truth only what men
try out inside the 'natural' space which is theirs since their birth?
The human reality does not finish
making its exodus. Still today. Today more than ever. It is true that
we arranged it, the cave of our modern world. It was immensely
widened. Lit from now on with electricity, wired for sound with power
and high fidelity and equipped with thousand facilities, it became
even more comfortable. The play of the shades improved. One does not
lose the least detail of it on the small screens of our TV. The media
have fun to orchestrate and amplify the debates of the cave dwellers…
Our vast cave resounds of a
multitude of speeches granted to its resonance. This is to say in
agreement with the Master Speech of our world. It is primarily a Speech in good health of
men in good health.
Man is the animal which leaves a cave. An odd animal! Normally an
animal comes in the world provided
with all it needs. It is born with its animality achieved according
to the determinations of its species. All is given. It is enough to
let it develop according to its own laws. Man is not born with his
accomplished humanity. He is born completely premature, naked,
amnesic. His
genetic program does not code beyond the complex machinery of its
body and its large brain. The remainder, the basic essentials, is to
be created and learned. Man is born in gaping. He is born for the
difference. He is born with a possibility of achievement. He is born
for an exodus towards authentic humanity. Man is generated for an
infinite begetting.
Education.
Ex-ducere.
To lead out of…
The most beautiful concept of humanity. Out
of what? Towards what? Out of
the simple nature towards man. Out of man towards more than
just man.
Man
is born with a 'nature' to be overtaken. A 'nature' which must be
crossed by negation to become an 'other nature'. That the Word of God
was not delivered as a dictation but through a process of centennial
education may appear scandalous for more than one spirit avid of an
absolute text. But God does not speak otherwise. The Bible is not an
'edifying' book. It provokes education, that is 'going beyond'. Don't
be afraid of it, men of little faith! To educate freedom for the
Covenant is more important, says God, than to offer sacrifices.
