Tropism
towards Agape
The
human reality, the authentic one, is elsewhere, further, deeper than
the easy surface in which we are unceasingly likely to confine it.
The order of the 'same' does not exhaust, and by far, the totality.
The human realm is open on an order
which is not that of the daily obviousnesses which reign in surface.
There, the euphorias go to the maximum of being, of having and of
appearing. In deepness, on the other hand, opens an infinite order
of gaping.
Here 'other' values have course. Not-being, not having,
not-appearing. This order of gaping is not immediately accessible. To
be somewhat at home with it you need something like a preliminary
'conversion'. Then, behind an 'infinite vacuum', you apprehend, in
hollowness, quasi negatively, an infinite plenitude.
A
deep tropism, something like a secret divine instinct towards its
essential dimension, calls the human reality towards the Other one.
Man
exists authentically only in the precipice of his vertical gaping…
Called
by an abyss of plenitude. There cannot be true humanity without this
call. Even if nobody wanted to listen to it, even if nobody wanted to
hear it, it would not be less the fundamental and constitutive
provocation of the human being. Man, simply, unconsciously or
consciously, would constitute himself in negative inversion against
it. Nobody could know which animal man would be without it. With it
is also given the possibility of not listening to it.
Do
we find our plenitude while bringing it back into the immanence? Or
do we find it while letting us provoke by the disproportion of the
Other one?
It
is a question of simple humanity. From the
start on the spiritual 'vocation' is not a question of chapel nor of
sacristy. The deep call of each man is of total humanity, of humanity
from before the great schizoid divide, of divine humanity. As
created, from the beginning, at the image and the resemblance of God.
The spiritual adventure is not for bringing a supplement or an
improvement. It has from the start on ontological significance. It is
to constitute the human condition in its authenticity. By discovering
the truth of God, it makes up the truth
of man.
Let you
choir in the vertical gaping totality.
Such a fall goes through deepest bottomless interiority. There the
spirit is loosing itself to some extent. Beyond its powers, beyond
its thought, beyond its very possibility for distinction, it
coincides with the pure light. It makes the experiience of
'illumination'. Thus takes place a kind of interior birth.
Mystical
gaping opens in the crack of being.
The clean mystical way is negative.
Against our instincts and to our logic it is a question of making up
emptiness for reaching plenitude. Ascetic life. Purification.
Detachment. Silence. Gaping. Nothingness.
This
call takes the voice of man. It
takes the
voice of God. In the Incarnation of the Verb. It is a cry in us of
the Spirit which shouts “Abba!” and attests that, far from being
orphan, we are of divine race and of trinitarian family. The
proportion of man is thus not the man but disproportion.
We are created for
inordinately large desings.
