The
house of sense
Tell
me the
house you are living in and I will tell you who you are. Human
reality isn't really at home if not in this original space which is
the 'house of sense'.
Here man is born. Here he lives. Here he grows up. Not only
physically!
The
house of the sense in which we live from day to day is not first a
large house. It rather resembles a house made at our measure where we
find ourselves really 'at home'. You need a hurricane which shakes
its bases and devastates the closed grounds to feel dependant on a
broader environment. The space of sense we are breathing in needs to
be shaken so we feel taken into a larger including space.
A
shock or an upheaval ejects us out
of
our daily certainty. A catastrophe, an accident, a failure expels us
out of the 'middle' to be projected towards the 'extremes'. When the
bridges are burned, then remains an extreme gaping where the sense can be
given absolutely. Large 'conversions' testify of that.
The
sense in the sense... There is always a broader sense - a more
including sense - which carries our actual sense. One can also
express that while distinguishing between the 'constituted'
sense, that one which is currently and effectively mine or ours, and
the 'constituting'
sense,
namely the dynamics which makes possible, which generates and which
carries the constituted sense.
The
sense is not from nothing. Every sense is always given starting from
a larger and more fundamental sense. The simple possibility of
saying: “it is absurd” presupposes such an including possibility
of sense.
Today
we
are likely to lose the Sense.
There was never a
civilization so rich in cultural productions as our modern one. A
proliferation of 'constituted' sense. But it misses the 'constituent'
one. Never was the risk of spiritual asphyxia so threatening as
today.
The sense of sense, two differential appoaches:

The
various levels of sense fit into each other. A 'why' is not
necessarily an ultimate 'why'. It remains still and still the 'why'
of 'why'. Each constituted sense lives thus by grace of a constituent
sense.
Trying
to carry out the thought until its extreme end does not go without
finally giving up in front of an ultimate including Sense. Which is
this including? Nature? Chance? Necessity? Reason? God? Fundamentally
each philosophy orbits around one of this absolute includings.

More shouting has made the need for an ecology of sense today . We
believed our spiritual system could function in strict
enclosure and buckled in schizoid autoproductive autonomy. We wanted
to be masters and owners of the total system itself. Much more,
masters and owners also of its hot source and of its cold well.
Masters and owners thus of all its potential difference, that is of
all its creative spiritual energy.
It is impossible that immanence buckled into strict immanence can
produce something else than tautological redundancy. Man needs more
than man to become really human. He needs the Other one. He needs the
great vertical Difference. He needs God.

But the world is slow
to risk its safety measures of immanence. He prefers to articulate ad
infinitum his installed certainty, resisting his
transfiguration.
What our modernity, trapped by its schizoid
enclosure and its sedentary vision of happiness is so passionately
unable to understand, a glance through Passover, a new-born glance,
perceives it in great simplicity. God loves the being in its crossing
of nothing. God likes creation being re-created. God loves man's
resuscitating.
Modernity, however, insists. Greatness of man?
But what a strange greatness which must pass through its 'other'
dimension! Rather alienation! And to protest for man. All man. Only
man.
Total man, maybe. However aren't we today culturally
promoting a man who wants to be total - more total than ever - and
whom, very curiously, are prohibited at the same time the
vital openings and the essential dimensions? Our project of
humanity becomes so much obsessed by its total realization that we forget the faults against the
totality of the project itself. Rather than to achieve even partially our totality, we prefer to carry out completely
our partiality.
