Entropy
in the human hearth
Capital
sins…
They convert into cash the sin of the world in every individual or
collective humanity. Traditionally you count seven ones. Pride. Envy.
Anger. Avarice. Lust. Intemperance. Idleness. You think they are from
another age, but their topicality is greater than ever. They trap our
desire. They trap it in
its root.
Before
I
wish this or that, there is already a fundamental desire in me. This
desire 'before', this basic desire, is of a deep ambivalence between
grace and sin, between opening and closing. A generous opening
remaining from his original creation, but also a schizoid enclosure
as a very concrete vestige of the sin of the world in our psychology.
Such are the capital sins. They affect negatively our desire in its
source. This
desire has to get masked to make itself presentable. So it disguises
itself and gets dressed with 'good manners'. But who is fooled by
this play of hide-and-seek? 'Civilization' can undoubtedly make
presentable. But can it 'save'?
The
capital sins govern a totalitarian system of the 'same'.
Pride is locked up in 'me'. Avarice, lust, intemperance, idleness
insists on 'my' assets, on 'my' pleasure, on 'my' satisfaction, on
'my' well being. And, as for envy and anger: always 'I', 'me', 'mine'
face to the other one, at the detriment of the other one, against the
other one... The system of the capital sins thus locks up the desire
in its autistic schizoid enclosure. But by doing this it makes it
play against itself. As a snake biting its tail, captif of its own
voracity.
The
desire…
A deeper reflection on the capital sins, and the envy in particular,
could have avoided Karl Marx erecting its monumental illusion. But
undoubtedly, then, one would not have taken him seriously. Marx
wanted to release a dynamics able to fill radically the human desire.
All the desire and the desire of all. This progressive optimism
underestimated the limits, physics and morals, of the possibilities
of the producing tool of euphoria. But he sinned still more seriously
against the profound nature of the desire itself. This one is not a
question of abstraction; it is about the real and concrete desire.
And this desire is wounded. How, starting from the 'struggle of
classes', get out of the vicious circle of envy against envy? How to
reach a 'classless society' without converting the desire in its
root? And how to free the desire from the alienation of its original
sin in the materialist and atheist immanence? Man returned to
himself? No, the desire simply returned to the capital sins.
In the marxist perspective, wouldn't
the 'fight' be purifying negativities? This recourse to the
dominating
Eros
is certainly immediately 'mobilizing'. It calls upon this simple and
easy spring which draws up the same
one
'against' the other
one.
At the same time, it justifies ideologically the fight which can be
only 'right' and canonizes its protagonists who can be only 'pure',
face to an adversary become the absolute scapegoat. The whole
allegedly sanctioned by the eternal judgement of history. But
fundamentally, Marx and the middle-class, locating their interests in
simple opposition, aren't they sharing the same
Eros?
And thus don't they function according to the same entropy?
The
unslung desire... We wanted it without taboo. We wanted it without
sin. We wanted it without proportion. Even the most savage heralds of
the 'total' liberation become disenchanted. The
nature of the things,
if needed, is recalling it cruelly.
Once
given free course to the capital sins, nothing seems to be able to
stop their proliferation and the outburst of their conflictual
situations. Envy against envy. Pride against pride. Injustice against
injustice. Greed against greed. Pleasure against pleasure…
Eros
has to want to fill a difference. But thus the distance between hot
source and cold well is necessarily narrowing. The entropy grows. The
difference without which the desire is nothing slips towards the
indifference. Thus towards death. Such a destiny is fatal in
immanence.
To
overcome entropy, to make grow the no-entropy, one needs an inversion
and a reversal of Eros. Who or what can operate this inversion? Such
a conversion of Eros
exists. It's called Agape.
